  • Resumen
    • A resistance strain gage is not sensitive, in principle, to the unitary angular deformation. However, the normal deformations are tied to the angular deformations and to the shearing by the laws of elasticity. By setting up various resistance strain gages with different orientations in the adequate outline of a Wheaststone bridge, a sign which is directly proportional to the shearing strain or unitary angular deviation may be obtained.

It is shown that the difference of normal deformations, measures by two resistance straing gages arbitrarily place in an area of uniform deformations, is proportional to the shearing strain according to the bisector of the angle formed by the same.

Upon a piece of rail, resting on two consecutive sleepers, the difference of the cutting forces in two sections of the rail is equal to the "Q" load of the wheel on the rail. Since the shearing is proportional to the cutting force, by measuring the former with duly set up resistance strain gages, we can find out the latter and thus the "Q" loads which act upon the rail.
