  • Resumen
    • Two texts of the late Middle Ages (last years of the xivth century, early in the second half of the xvth) were told in prose about the battle of Roncesvalles, with the death of Roland and the twelve peers: Jean d’Outremeuse’s Myreur des Histors and the Cronicles and conquests of Charlemaine, compiled by David Aubert. This article analyzes the work of proofreading that was undertaken by these authors. Our hypothesis is that they both either follow a preestablished pattern, or in an unpredetermined way carry on the essential data of Pseudo-Turpin and Roncesvaux inversely to varying degrees in order to expand the story of the battle itself on which the Pseudo-Turpin appears quite laconic. In accordance with his usual, Jean d’Outremeuse, often in a fairly dry writing, highlights the role of Ogier, to whom he attributes exploits traditionally associated with Roland, changing very freely both models. David Aubert (closer to Roncesvaux, more developed than the Liège columnist and not hesitating to redouble episodes) retains in Roland his essential role and is attentive to the characters’ psychology of Roland, Aude or Ganelon.
