  • Resumen
    • In an article published in December 1997, eight months after Bre-X's fraud had been exposed, the international legal magazine, The Lawyer, noted: "Following the Bre-X announcement the price of many of Canada's junior and intermediate mining stocks took a beating, from which they have not yet recovered. In the present climate, it remains difficult for junior companies to raise speculative equity capital. The impact has even been felt by some of Canada's largest mining companies." He added that the TSX is "unparalleled" in its ability to raise capital for companies, both domestic and foreign, thanks largely to the perception that the legislation has "cleaned up" Canada's mining stock market.

Independent consultants from Toronto-based Strathcona Mineral Services who were called in to analyse the project confirmed that there was "virtually no possibility of an economic gold deposit," and that the resource projections had been based on "falsified data".
