  • Resumen
    • China's largest rare earths producer Inner Mongolia Baotou Steel Rare-Earth (Group) Hi-Tech Co., is to gain control of 12 other producers to form a rare earths'megacompany' in a bid to strengthen its dominance of the domestic light rare earths market.

[Baotou] added to speculation that it intended to form a rare earths conglomerate in August 2012 during the China Rare Earth Industry Forum, where it also launched the Baotou rare earths exchange platform, although this has yet to begin trading.E Although it is widely expected that the stagnation in purchasing by rare earths consumers must come to an end soon, at present demand for rare earths remains weak both within China and internationally (see Price Briefing p65 for full coverage of rare earths prices in January).
