Mechanical ventilation (MV), intubation and extubation are routine procedures in ICUs, but offer great risks to the patient and can occur success or failure of extubation. The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the failure rates in tracheal extubation in an Oncology ICU. The study is descriptive, quantitative and followed by a prospective cohort study, which was conducted two months of data gathering and analysis. Of a total of 57 extubations performed, 82.5% were successful and failure occurred in 17.5%, and the class that had lower failure rate IDV used. The study confirmed that the use of predictive indices for extubation reduces the failure rate.
