Resumen de MicroRNA deregulation in lung cancer and their use as clinical tools

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as key regulators of gene expression. miRNA tight control over mRNA translation into proteins has been described in all cell processes, being essential for cell homeostasis. miRNA alterations have been described in many diseases, including lung cancer, the most frequent type of cancer. The advent of high-throughput technologies has allowed large-scale analysis of miRNAs leading to the identification of new signatures with diagnostic and prognostic value in lung cancer. Moreover, the silencing of tumor suppressor miRNAs and activation of oncomiRs have emerged as powerful tools for long-awaited personalized treatment.
