    Durante el Antiguo Régimen fueron muy numerosas las fiestas y romerías de carácter religioso en la villa de Bilbao. Unas celebraciones a las que había que añadir bailes populares como los de Carnaval, o los espectáculos taurinos o teatrales, entre otros, así como los bailes y fiestas particulares. Esta serie de eventos festivos profanos levantaron siempre los recelos de las élites y estuvieron sometidos a un creciente control. Analizamos la evolución y cambios habidos en los principales espacios de sociabilidad y fiesta, así como en la comensalidad.

    During the Old Regime there were numerous festivals and parties with a religious character in the township of Bilbao. In addition to these celebrations there were popular dances, like those of the Carnival, or bullfighting and theatrical spectacles, amongst others, as well as private dances and parties. This series of profane festive events always aroused misgivings amongst the elites and were subjected to growing control. The article analyzes the evolution and changes that took place in the main spaces of sociability and celebration, as well as in sociability itself.

    Lege Zaharraren denboretan Bilbo hiribilduan ugariak izan ziren erlijio izaera zuten jaiak eta erromeriak. Ospakizun horiei Aratuzteetako herri-dantzak edota zezen eta antzerki ikuskizunak, dantzaldiak eta jai partikularrak erantsi behar izango genizkieke, besteak beste. Ikuskizun profanoen sorta horiek eliteei susmo txarrak eragiten zizkieten eta, ondorioz, kontrol gero eta zorratzago ezarri zitzaien. Elkartze eta jai gune nagusietan bizi izan diren aldaketak eta bilakaerak aztertzen ditugu, tartean mahaikidetasuna ere sartuz.
