    El interés por el tema de la muerte y los cuidados paliativos se ha enfocado desde muy diversas perspectivas a lo largo de la historia, y en los últimos 40 años ha dejado de ser un tema que se deba evitar u omitir, como consta en el florecimiento de la literatura que trata de las implicaciones filosóficas, organizacionales,profesionales y personales del trabajo con enfermos moribundos, la muerte misma y el duelo. El mejor pronóstico y la mayor duración de la vida ponen en evidencia situaciones y problemas que antes no tenían tiempo ni oportunidad de emerger; aun cuando la muerte en cuanto realidad no haya cambiado,si han acontecido cambios decisivos por lo que respecta al ir-muriéndose:la manera en la cual la gente muere ha cambiado.

    The interest for the issue of death and that of the palliative cares has been focused from very different perspectives throughout history, and in the last 40 years it has stopped being an issue which must be avoided or omitted, as it can be recorded in the flourishing of the literature which deals with the philosophical, organizational, professional and personal implications of the work with dying sick people, death itself, and duel. The best prediction and the longer duration of life demonstrate issues and problems that before did not have time or the chance to emerge, even though death as for reality has not changed, but there have been decisive changes regarding the fact of start dying: the manner people die has changed.
