Lenguaje e identidad en los adolescentes de hoy

    Una de las facultades centrales que distingue al género humano es el lenguaje: es dispositivo básico para el pensamiento, el conocimiento, la imaginación, la construcción e interacción con la realidad; le permite al individuo interactuar con el medio, planear su acción, trabajar en equipo, ser nombrado por otros asignándole una identidad, y a su vez asumirla, modificarla y ponerle su sello personal; en definitiva, permite la circulación de la cultura humana sirviéndole de soporte a la ciencia, la tecnología, el arte, los valores y normas que constituyen su universo simbólico. El adolescente y el joven están consolidando una identidad personal y social, y el lenguaje les permite nombrarla y elaborarla, a su vez que las interacciones con otros a través de los discursos, les posibilita tomar referentes para su diferenciación como un grupo social diferente a los niños y a los adultos, y con una presencia como sujetos o actores sociales. En el presente texto, se aborda la identidad personal y social como una construcción subjetiva que tiene que recibir un reconocimiento por parte del otro; sea familia, grupo de amigos, profesores, agrupación juvenil, agrupaciones profesionales, en general instituciones de la sociedad.

    One of the fundamental faculties which distinguishes the human race is language: it is a basic device for thought, knowledge, imagination, construction and interaction with reality, letting the individual to interact with their environment, plan their action, work as a team, be named by others and providing them with an identity, and at the same time, adopt it, modify it and stamp their personal style; in short, language allows the circulation of the human culture, serving as a support to science, technology, art, the values and regulations which make up their symbolic universe. The adolescent and the young are consolidating a personal and social identity and it is language which lets them to name it and elaborate it, and interactions, through speech, with others, let them take referents for their differentiation as a social group different from that of children and adults, and with a presence as social subjects or actors. In this current article, the personal and social identity is tackled as a subjective construction which has to be acknowledged by someone else: either the family, a group of friends, teachers, youth groups, professional associations, and in general, institutions of society.
