Proclamatio barroca en Montevideo. Permanencias de la escenificación festiva colonial en las proclamaciones de Carlos IV y Fernando VII

    Las fiestas de jura y proclamación real de Carlos IV (1789) y Fernando VII (1808), materializadas en el Montevideo colonial, definieron un aparato escénico de especial interés para el abordaje de su historia social y de la producción cultural de la época. Desde lo urbano, las mismas arrojan luz sobre la manera de valorar, percibir y habitar la ciudad, al tiempo que informan sobre el estado de una cultura artística de transición entre la tradición barroca que le viene del pasado -todavía muy vigente aún- y de las nuevas maneras –tanto formales como conceptuales- que surgen desde el nuevo discurso ilustrado. El presente trabajo señala que las características festivas no se limitaron a los tiempos del dominio español en Montevideo sino que se proyectaron –aunque con diferencias- en el contexto del gobierno artiguista primero y, más tarde, en tiempos republicanos

    The royal pledge and proclaim celebrations of Charles IV (1789) and Ferdinand VII (1808) that were held in colonial Montevideo defined a setting of special interest for the approach of its social history and the cultural production of the times. These celebrations, from an urban point of view, shed light on the way to value, perceive and inhabit the city while they inform on the state of an artistic culture of transition from the inherited baroque tradition –still prevailing- to the new styles –both formal and conceptual- that emerge from the new Enlightenment discourse. This paper points out that not only the festive features were not limited to the times of the Spanish control in Montevideo but were also projected –with some differences, though- to the contexts of Artigas’ government first, and to republican times later.
