  The authors discuss how transexualities, the gap between anatomy and the sense of identity, refer not only to the familiar strange, but the identification process. Gender is a cultural construct that serves as identity support to the subject in the his or her constitution; and the I refers to a mythical particular expedient to give order to drive motions: a childish attempt to mitigate the psychic helplessness. In addition to the lack of connection between the subject of the unconscious and the biological system, transsexuals recall the force of sex and its vicissitudes, including sexual polymorphism of the subject, and the imposition of constant and disturbing question: “Who am I?”

  Os autores discutem como as transexualidades, o descompasso entre anatomia e o sentimento de identidade remetem não apenas ao estranho familiar mas também às identificações. O gênero é uma construção cultural que serve de suporte identitário ao sujeito em constituição, e o Eu recorre a um expediente mítico particular para dar ordenamento às suas moções pulsionais: uma infantil tentativa de atenuar o desamparo psíquico. Para além da desarticulação entre o sujeito do inconsciente e o ordenamento biológico, os transexuais recordam o vigor do sexual e de suas vicissitudes, o que inclui o polimorfismo sexual do sujeito, além da imposição do constante e inquietante questionamento: “Quem sou Eu?”
