Resumen de The road to digital television in Greece: One step forward, two steps backward?

Stylianos Papathanassopoulos

  • This article aims to provide an overview of the state of digital conversion in Greece. By examining the latest digital developments in Greece, it suggests that the Greek government, in the case of digital satellite and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), adopted a purely market-driven approach and in effect a ‘do nothing’ policy option. On the other hand, in the case of digital terrestrial television (DTT), in an initial phase, the government wanted to push TV stations into the digital transition by using the public broadcaster as the driver of the development. With the change in government in the midst of a severe economic crisis, the development of DTT seems now to have been left to the market forces.
