  • Resumen
    • We describe a very simple experiment that allows one to teach the basics of surface electrochemistry. The spontaneous adsorption of a commercially available polyoxometalate is used to modify the surface of a graphite pencil. The electrochemical properties of the unmodified and modified interface are examined by cyclic voltammetry. Valuable information about double-layer capacitance, surface coverage, the number of electrons involved, and electrocatalytic activity are extracted from the measurements, which can help to visualize the basic concepts of this very active field of research.
