  • Resumen
    • Synthetic polymers based on naturally occurring phospholipid structures found in cell membranes are demonstrating significant clinical benefits in a number of application areas. The general synthesis and properties of materials in which the characterized feature is the presence of the phosphorylchloline group (PC) are described. Coatings and bulk materials containing PC markedly reduce the extent to which proteins adhere to their surface, which can result in improved acceptance by the body. The clinical merits of PC materials and coated devices used in the ocular and circulatory environments are discussed.
