Resumen de La embarcación de la jarra romana del río Ulla (Galicia)

En este estudio se ofrecen datos iconográficos para identificar el tipo de embarcación grabada en la panza de una jarra romana que se encontró en el fondo del río Ulla, cerca de Pontecesures (Galicia, España). Se puede dar una explicación sobre el tema por medio de la comparación con las embarcaciones representadas en algunos mosaicos romanos fechados en los siglos II y III d. de C. Tiene un notable parecido con el de algunos botes representados en esos mosaicos romanos. Tipológicamente este bote del Ulla se asemeja a un esquife romano; por lo que se puede deducir que fue grabado a finales del siglo III d. de C.

This study offers some iconographic sources to identify the type of boat carved on the belly of a Roman jug, which was found in the bottom of the river Ulla near Pontecesures (Galicia, Spain). Some light may be thrown on the subject by comparison with the boats represented on some Roman mosaics dated in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. The outline of this Ulla boat bears striking resemblance to some boats depicted in those Roman mosaics. Typologically, this Ulla boat resembles a Roman "scapha", that is, a small boat, and it may be assumed that it was carved towards the end of the 3rd centuty AD.
