Actores, situaciones y relaciones en la construcción de ethos científico social en América Latina y México: 1940 - 2000

    El propósito de este artículo es hacer evidente la fuerza que el pasado ejerce en “el deber ser”, lo “que es”, lo que han hecho y hacen los científicos en América Latina y México para construir el conocimiento social. Se muestra como estos académicos han edificado un ethoscientífico en el que no sólo influyen los aspectos teóricos y metodológicos, sino que hay además un telón de fondo en el que los investigadores se identifican, se comprometen y le dan sentido a su quehacer con profunda seriedad moral y entrega. En ese enmarque se definen las situaciones que se encuentran intrincadas de manera interdependiente por tres dimensiones que sólo pueden distinguirse analíticamente y que son: 1) el tiempo en el que se ha cultivado el conocimiento científico social; 2) su inserción en el espacio, que es el territorio que lo enmarca, y 3) la relación de los investigadores en la historia y en el entorno.

    The aim of this article is to highlight the weight of the past in the “should”, the “what is”, and what scien tists in Latin America and Mexico have done and are doing to build social knowledge. It shows how these academics have constructed a scientific ethos in which not only do theoretical and methodological matters weigh in, but there is also a background in which researchers identify, commit themselves and make sense out of their work with profound moral seriousness and devotion. In that framework, the interdependently overlapping situations are defined by three dimensions that can only be distinguished analytically: 1) the time in which scientific social knowledge has been cultivated; 2) its insertion in space, which is the territory that frames it; and 3) the relationship of researchers in history and in their surroundings.
