Tesis e implicaciones aristotélicas en la teoría de la guerra justa de Ginés de Sepúlveda

    Esta presentación pone de realce una nueva interpretación política del Estagirita en el siglo XVI, diferente a las propuestas difundidas durante la Edad Media. En ella se investigan las bases filosófico-naturalistas de la teoría de la justa guerra de Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda, a la luz de la filosofía política de Aristóteles (autor en el que el mismo Sepúlveda se inspirara profundamente para la fundamentación de su filosofía política). No se juzga dicha teoría a la luz de la polémica de la Conquista:

    Sepúlveda‒Las Casas, sino más bien se establecen las causas de la guerra justa, y se estipulan cuidadosamente de modo argumentativo en qué casos aplica su despliegue, como la última de las opciones racionales en defensa del bien común y de la ley natural inscrita en el corazón mismo de nuestra esencia. La reinterpretación de Aristóteles le inscribe dentro de una añeja tradición de pensamiento, pero innovada y fortalecida por nuevos enfoques y formulaciones de su tiempo.

    This presentation will highlight a new political interpretation of Aristotle in the 16th century different from proposals circulated during the Middle Ages. The philosophical-naturalistic bases of the theory of just war of Juan Gines de Sepulveda, in light of the political philosophy of Aristotle (in which author Sepulveda himself was deeply inspired for the foundation of his political philosophy) are investigated. This theory is not judged in the light of the controversy of the Conquest: Sepulveda-Las Casas, but rather the cause of just war are set, and thoughtful argumentation is provided on cases where its deployment, such as the last of rational choices in defense of the common good and the natural law written on the heart of our essence itself. The reinterpretation of Aristotle falls within a long tradition of thought, but is innovated and strengthened by new approaches and formulations of his time.
