Entre 1949 y 1952, los Talleres del Servicio Geográfico del Ejército publican las quince hojas a escala 1:100.000 que conforman el Avance del Mapa Topográfico y Forestal de Guinea. De esta forma se culmina, a pesar de que el nombre indica una cierta provisionalidad, un objetivo largamente perseguido por los órganos de la administración colonial: poseer una cartografía del bosque de la Guinea continental española. Este trabajo pretende mostrar tanto el original proceso de confección del Avance como el hecho de que se enmarca en un contexto económico, político y administrativo marcado por una triple necesidad: incrementar la integración industrial y comercial del bosque guineano; extender las concesiones forestales más allá del ámbito costero en el que están acantonadas; y poseer un exacto conocimiento de su ubicación después de su rápido desarrollo a partir de 1927 y, en ocasiones, confusa tramitación.

Between 1949 and 1952 the Spanish Army Geographical Service published the fifteen sheets at the scale of 1:100,000 that constitute the Advancement of the Topographic and Forest Map of Guinea. Even though the name itself suggests a certain degree of tentativeness, the aim long pursued by the organisms of the Spanish colonial administration is thus achieved: to have a forest cartography of Spanish continental Guinea. This paper aims at showing both the Advancement’s original process of elaboration as well as its being part of an economic, political and administrative context characterized by a triple necessity: to increase industrial and commercial integration of the Guinean forest; to expand forest concessions beyond the coastal area where they are located; and to possess an accurate knowledge of its location after its rapid development from 1927 and, at times, confusing processing.
