    El espacio es el objeto específico de la geografía, pero existen pocos estudios empíricos sobre su aprendizaje escolar. El tema del trabajo corresponde a la construcción escolar del espacio geográfico, en el contexto rural. El objetivo es investigar hasta qué punto las habilidades cognitivas del alumnado, así como la metodología utilizada con el aporte de los materiales curriculares diseñados, con ayuda de instituciones académicas, son factores determinantes en la explicación de los elementos que configuran el espacio geográfico. El problema de investigación es el siguiente: el espacio y el territorio son objetos de conocimiento geográfico que se construyen en la enseñanza escolar de forma conceptual y compartimentada, dificultando la comprensión del medio próximo y la espacialidad en diferentes escalas. Para su desarrollo se utiliza metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa, basada en la investigación-acción. En el diseño participa un grupo experimental y un grupo control. Los cursos participantes corresponden a Primer año de Educación Media A y B del Liceo Eduardo Frei Montalva de la comuna rural de Monte Patria, IV Región, Chile.

    Space is the specific subject of geography, although there are few empirical studies of their schooling. The topic of the work corresponds to the school construction of the geographical space, in the rural context. The target is to investigate until point the cognitive skills of the pupils, as well as the methodology used with the contribution of the materials designed, with help of academic institutions, there are determinant factors in the explanation of the elements that form the geographical space. The problem of investigation is the following: the space and the territory are objects of geographical knowledge that are constructed in the school education of conceptual and compartmentalized form, making difficult the comprehension of the next way and the space in different scales. For its development there is used a quantitative and qualitative methodology based on the research-action. In the design there informs an experimental group and a control group. The taking part courses correspond to the first year of average education to A and B of the Eduardo Frei Montalva school of the rural commune of Monte Patria, IV Region, Chile.
