    Los ensayos críticos que Antonio Marichalar publica en The Criterion y sobre todo en Revista de Occidente ayudan a comprender la trayectoria estética de la "joven literatura" española entre 1925 y 1935, desde la poesía pura hasta el surrealismo, desde la deshumanización del arte hasta el nuevo romanticismo. Aunque este crítico es partidario de la noción de arte nuevo, y de la vanguardia constructiva y racionalista que orienta Ortega y Gasset hacia la modernización de España, también aborda las mutaciones estéticas que ponen en crisis el concepto de "creación pura".

    Critical essays published by Antonio Marichalar in The Criterion and specially in Revista de Occidente helps to understand aesthetic career of the Spanish "young literature" between 1925 and 1935, from the pure poetry to the surrealism, from the dehumanization of art to the new romanticism. Although this critic is in favour of the notion of new art, and the constructive and rationalist avant-garde that Ortega y Gasset guides towards Spain's modernization, he also deals with the aesthetic mutations that puts in crisis the concept of "pure creation".
