Resumen de Latín y neolatín: una contraposición absurda

El rechazo de que suele ser objeto el uso moderno del latín (el neolatín) en las acade- mias y cátedras universitarias puede explicarse por el exceso, y a veces el descuido, con que algunos neolatinistas suelen utilizar la lengua del Lacio para fines abierta- mente banales e inconducentes. Sin embargo, una bien entendida utilización actual del latín debería convertirlo en un instrumento idóneo para mejor comprender la sintaxis del siglo I a. C. y siguientes, que no es diferente a la del latín actual, siempre y cuando el neolatinista tenga conciencia de ello y se apegue a la gramática. Así, los textos neolatinos leídos habitualmente servirían para dominar la sintaxis y para intro- ducirse en al apasionante mundo de la literatura e historia antiguas, que deberían contribuir a conservar la identidad cultural de la Europa de hoy.

The rejection of the modern use of Latin (the neoLatin) that usually takes place in academies and university chairs, can be explained by excess and sometimes disre- gard, of some neo-Latinists that often use the language of Lazio to ends openly banal and inconclusive. However, a well understood utilization of current Latin should become an ideal tool to better understand the syntax of the first century BC and on- wards, which is not different from the current Latin, as long as the neo-Latinist be aware of it and stick to the grammar. Thus, the neo-Latin texts read will usually serve to master syntax and to enter into the exciting world of literature and ancient history, which should help to preserve the cultural identity of Europe today.
