Gestão da diversidade: Um estudo no setor hoteleiro de uma cidade do nordeste brasileiro

    O ambiente organizacional apresenta-se competitivo e diversificado. Diante desse cenário se faz importante entender e gerir essa diversidade, visando atender as diferentes necessidades dos sujeitos que compõem a ambiência organizacional. O setor hoteleiro passou por transformações frente à realização de significativos eventos internacionais e o consequente aquecimento do movimento turístico. Assim, esse estudo teve como objetivo analisar como os gerentes e especialistas percebem a gestão da diversidade no setor hoteleiro de uma cidade do nordeste brasileiro, especialmente no que tange à mulher, ao homossexual, ao étnica-racial e a pessoa com deficiência. O estudo tem abordagem exploratória e qualitativa, utilizou entrevistas semiestruturadas, estas realizada s com 05 gerentes de hotéis e 05 especialistas do setor hoteleiro. Concluiu-se que o tema diversidade ainda é novo e pouco explorado, e, portanto, pouco conhecido tanto pelas organizações hoteleiras quanto pelos especialistas relacionados ao setor, e que não existem práticas ou programas de gestão da diversidade formalizados. O que existem são algumas publicações de um trabalho ou outro, mas pautado na informalidade de ações inconscientes e não gerenciadas conscientemente. As crenças relacionadas à diversidade são abrangentes, pois a sociedade ainda tende a rejeitar o diferente. A mulher e o negro são aceitos com maior naturalidade, mas ainda poucos ocupam cargos estratégicos. O homossexual ainda é alvo de chacotas e muito preconceito no ambiente de trabalho e a pessoa com deficiência enfrenta dificuldade para provar sua competência em face do paradigma de suas limitações físicas e cognitivas. As considerações gerais apontam para a necessidade de aprofundamento da temática.

    The organizational environment is presented as both competitive and diversified. In this scenario it is important to understand and manage this diversity, to meet the different needs of individuals that make up the organizational environment. The hotel industry has suffered transformations due to significant international events and the consequent larger number of tourist’s and travelers. This study aimed to examine how managers and experts perceive diversity management in the hotel industry of a city in the northeast of Brazil, especially in regard to women, to homosexuals, the ethic- racial and the disabled (handicap). The study has an exploratory and qualitative approach, and used semi-structured interviews conducted with these 05 managers of hotels and 05 specialists in the hospitality industry. It was concluded that the theme of diversity is still new and unexplored, and therefore little known both by the hotel organizations as by specialists related to this sector, and that there are no specific practices or management on this subject formal managing of diversity.

    What we can find is some publications and some works, but they are all guided by the informality of unconscious actions and unmanaged consciously. Beliefs related to diversity are extensive, because society still tends to reject the other, particularly the ones that are different. The women and the blacks are accepted more naturally, but still few occupy strategic positions. Gays however are still teas ed and suffer much prejudice in the workplace and the disabled people still face lots of difficulty to prove their competence in the face of the paradigm of their physical and cognitive limitations. The general considerations point to the need to deepen this theme.
