Resumen de Mestizos e inconclusos: Interpretaciones sobre la Historia de México en Bachillerato

Existen diversas formas de interpretar el pasado en la escuela. En ellas se imbrican diferentes discursos provenientes de la historiografía, de las finalidades sociales dadas a la historia, de las propuestas de identidad nacional, de las estrategias didácticas y de las interpretaciones formuladas por los propios estudiantes. El resultado, aunque con matices, es vincular directamente al pasado con el presente. En este trabajo se estudian las interpretaciones de la Conquista de México, la Guerra de Independencia y la Revolución Mexicana. Aunque relativamente homogéneas las interpretaciones estudiantiles, por ejemplo sobre la identidad mestiza y la historia inconclusa, encuentran divergencias significativas. En el presente texto se describe cómo los estudiantes de tres bachilleratos del sur de la Ciudad de México llegan a estas significaciones sobre el pasado y explican sus particulares formas de dar sentido al pasado desde el presente.

Schools interpret the past in diverse forms. Overlapping within those forms are various discourses from historiography, from the social ends given to history, from the proposals of national identity, from didactic strategies, and from the interpretations formulated by the students themselves. The result, in spite of variations, is to link the past directly to the present. The current article studies the interpretations of the Conquest of Mexico, the War of Independence, and the Mexican Revolution. Although student interpretations of mestizo identities and unfinished history, for example, are relatively homogeneous, significant divergence is also found. This paper describes how students in three high schools in southern Mexico City attach meaning to the past and how they explain their unique forms of doing so from the present.
