    La muerte del X duque de Béjar cuando combatía en Buda en julio de 1686 contra los turcos, unida, desde la óptica de sus coetáneos, a la aureola de valentía personal que le precedía y a una intachable piedad próxima a la santidad, se constituyeron en los factores que acabaron generando en torno a su figura una sólida reputación, que perduró hasta el final del Antiguo Régimen. Dicha notoriedad, cuyo origen está en un constructo de su propio «yo» por el duque, será bien instrumentalizada por los Zúñiga para generar y transmitir memoria del linaje, puesto que, bajo su biografía, muy eficaz como pedagogía del poder, subyacía una ideología nobiliaria tendente a la legitimación y perpetuación social de sus privilegios.

    The death in battle in July 1686 of the 10th Duke of Bejar while fighting in Buda against the Turks, together with his personal reputation -in the eyes of his contemporaries-of being courageous and his faultless devotion were the factors which will eventually create a solid reputation for him. That fame, created by the Duke himself, would last until the end of the Former Regime and will be carefully used by the Zuñiga family as a tool to create and transmit their bloodline ́s memory. The reasons for this use lie on the Duke ́s biography, very effective as power Pedagogy, in which a peer ideology based on the social perpetuation and legitimizationof their privileges is presented.
