El artículo expone el proceso constructivo de la bastarda, firmemente apoyado en las aportaciones de los maestros españoles. También proporciona una visión general de las figuras más importantes de la caligrafía española a lo largo de este período, como Juan de Icíar, Francisco Lucas, Ignacio Pérez, Pedro Díaz Morante o José de Casanova. El trabajo de este grupo de maestros permite definir las características formales de este estilo y confirmar la existencia de un tipo de escritura cuyas formas están claramente diferenciadas de las formas de los otros estilos europeos que también llevan el nombre de bastarda. Uno de los principales argumentos a favor de la existencia de la bastarda española es la persistencia de un esfuerzo colectivo, que lleva más de cuatro siglos para definir un estilo nacional de escritura.
The article exposesthe constructive process of the bastarda, firmly supported in the contributions of the Spanish masters. It also provides an overview of the most important figures of the Spanish calligraphy throughout this period, as Juan de Icíar, Francisco Lucas, Ignacio Pérez, Pedro Díaz Morante o José de Casanova. The work of these group of masters define the formal features of this style and confirm the existence of a type of writing whose shapes are clearly differentiated from the shapes of other European styles which also carry the name of bastarda. One of the main arguments for the existence of the Spanish bastarda is the persistence of a collective effort which takes more than four centuries to define a national writing style.
