Gracias a la mediación del escritor Waldo Frank, en 1924 José Ortega y Gasset se convirtió en corresponsal desde Madrid de la revista cultural estadounidense The Dial. Como consecuencia de ello publicó su primera “Spanish Letter” en el ejemplar de octubre de ese año y estableció, además, una relación de intercambio entre la revista americana y Revista de Occidente, que él mismo dirigía. Este trabajo aborda este doble vínculo, a través de una correspondencia cruzada que abarca el periodo abril 1924-marzo 1927, entre el filósofo, su hermano Manuel y Fernando Vela (administrador y secretario de Revista de Occidente) y las entonces responsables de The Dial.

Thanks to mediation of writer Waldo Frank, in 1924 José Ortega y Gasset became the Spanish correspondent of the American cultural magazine The Dial. As a result of this, he published his first “Spanish Letter” in the October issue of that year and established a mutual collaboration between the American magazine and the Revista de Occidente, which he directed. This article analyses this double relationship in Ortega’s trajectory through the correspondence exchanged between the Spanish philosopher, his brother Manuel and Fernando Vela (administrator and secretary of the Revista de Occidente) and the editors of The Dial from 1924 to 1927.
