    Cet article s’intéresse aux approches développées en sociolinguistique pour accéder aux parlers ordinaires - » casual speech », parler « identitaire », « normal » ou « authentique »- ainsi qu’aux conceptions sous-jacentes de l’ordinaire langagier et de ses conditions de production. Confrontant l’activité catégorielle du chercheur et celle des locuteurs in situ et illustrant ces propos à l’aide d’extraits d’interactions recueillies dans le cadre de deux recherches menées en Ile de France, il s’agit de réfléchir aux apports d’analyses attentives aux processus de production de l’ordinaire langagier. L’attention portée à la fois à la variabilité langagière en interaction, à la mobilité du locuteur et aux mutations des sociétés paraît particulièrement intéressante pour rendre compte de la pluralité des constructions de l’ordinaire langagier. Ces questions d’ordre méthodologico théorique concernent la capacité heuristique de la notion de « parler ordinaire » et, partant, celle d’une série de notions relatives à l’étude de la variabilité langagière.

    This paper looks at approaches developed in sociolinguistics to deal with with « ordinary speech » - « casual speech », « identity code », « real talk » - as a way of understanding the conceptions underpinning « ordinary speech » and the contexts of production. We compare the researcher’s categorizing activity with speakers’ activities on the ground and refer to two studies in the Parisian suburbs, in order to consider the contribution of fine-grained analyses of the production process of language ordinariness. We emphasize the importance of presenting an analysis that takes into account language variability during interaction, the speakers’ mobility, and change within societies, to show the plurality of constructions of ordinary language. These methodological and theoretical issues concern the heuristic value of the notion of « ordinary speech » and therefore that of a series of concepts related to studies on language variability.
