Este artículo relaciona las series indias del Ramayana y el Mahabharata emitidas en la cadena pública Doordarshan a principios de los noventa, con el desarrollo y apogeo de los movimientos fundamentalistas hinduistas y los atentados de la mezquita de Babri Masij años más tarde. Las emisiones del Ramayana y Mahabharata rompieron con la consigna del Primer Ministro Jawahalhal Nehru de hacer de la India un estado laico,y sirvieron para promover un tipo de simbología que fue hábilmente recuperada por los sectores más conservadores y que hoy todavía se utiliza.

This article tries to make the relations between the Indian series of the Ramayana and Mahabharata issued in the public broadcaster Doordarshan in the early nineties, with the development and rise of the Hindu fundamentalist movements and attacks of the Babri mosque Masij years later.
