  El presente trabajo analiza las diferentes estrategias argumentativas utilizadas en el discurso político del Partido Popular español durante el año 2013 para defenderse de una serie de acusaciones que afectaron su imagen pública. Es el conocido “caso Bárcenas”. Nos centraremos en los procedimientos lingüísticos de atenuación y ocultación, los mecanismos llevados a cabo por los implicados en este caso para maquillar una realidad que perjudica su imagen personal y grupal. Analizaremos también el papel que han jugado los medios de comunicación y las redes sociales en este caso, y veremos si realmente la evasión y la ocultación han servido para alcanzar los objetivos perseguidos por los hablantes.

  This paper analyses the different argumentative strategies used in political discourse by Spanish Partido Popular in 2013 to defend themselves from some accusations that affected its public image in the so-called “Bárcenas case”. We will focus on the linguistic hiding and mitigation mechanisms carried out by those involved in this case to make up a reality that hurts their personal image and the image of their group. We also analyse the role played by the media and social networks in this case and we will study if evasion and hiding really served to achieve the objectives of the speakers.
