    En la década de 1630 las temidas galeras y galeotas berberiscas de Argel y Túnez recobran una vitalidad similar a la que tuvieron en los mejores años del siglo XVI. El artífice de este nuevo auge fue el corsario Alí Bitchin, que fijó como uno de sus objetivos preferentes las costas de Alicante y Murcia. Esta intensa actividad corsaria hemos podido conocerla gracias a la información contenida en la sección de guerra y marina del A.G.S., del consejo de Aragón del A.C.A. y de los archivos municipales de de las localidades costeras de Alicante y Murcia. Como consecuencia de ello, el número de asaltos, cautiverios, robos de embarcaciones y ataques a las torres del litoral alcanzó una virulencia en el Sureste español casi desconocida.

    In the 1630's the barbaresque galleys and galliots from Algiers and Tunicia regained the vitality similar to that of the best years of the XVI century. The maker of this new expansion was the corsair Ali Bitchin whose main objectives were the coast of Alicante and Murcia. This intense corsarian activity has come to us thanks to the information in the section of war and marine of the A.G.S. from the council of Aragon of the A.C.A. and from the town historical archives of the coast of Alicante and Murcia. As a consequence, the assaults, captivities, robberies in ships and attacks to the towers of the coast, grew in a virulent way never known before in the south East of Spain.
