    Se hace una pequeña reseña histórica de esta enfermedad. Luego se revisa la anatomía de las diferentes variantes de coartación de la aorta y se relaciona a la embriología y la fisiología que puede dar origen a estas variantes. Después se describen las principales operaciones q lue se pueden realizar para corregir la obstrucción de la aorta.Se discute también la combinación entre la presencia y ausencia de comunicación interventricular y otras malformaciones a nivel intracardiaco y su correlación con el arco aórtico coartado. Finalmente, de acuerdo a las variantes anatómicas, se sugiere cual tipo de procedimiento quirúrgico es el más recomendable, tomando en cuenta todas estas características y unido a un análisis amplio de las manifestaciones clínicas de esta patología.

    There is a brief review of the pathology. Then the anatomy and the different variants of the coarctation of the aorta are correlated with the embryology and physiology that could originate these variants. After, there is a description of the main surgical procedures that can be performed to correct the obstruction of the aorta.There is also a description between the presence and absence of an interventricular communication and other intracardiac malformations and their relation with the coarctation of the aorta. Finally and accordingly to the anatomical variants there are recommendations on which is the optimal operation for any anatomical type of coarctation also with a vast analysis of the clinical manifestations of this pathology.
