  • Hot 100 Alumni Tim Lord QC, Brick Court Chambers Brick Court Chambers' Tim Lord QC appeared in the Hot 100 2013 for his work in taking Barclays to task over Libor-fixing claims.

    The case, in which he won the right to call Barclays to the High Court to answer the rate manipulation allegations, hit the headlines just as the full extent of the banking scandal came to light, with huge repercussions for the UK economy and financial services industry.

    It also served as a test case for civil litigation against the banks over rate-fixing claims. Barclays settled with Lord's client Guardian Care Homes in April 2014 at a reputed cost to the bank of some £40m.

    The test case was a fascinating window into revelations as to how and why interest rates were manipulated over several years by traders.
