Resumen de Rol de los biosistemas forestales en el desarrollo dentro de un marco de cambio climático

  En este artículo introducimos el concepto de biosistema forestal como un elemento integrador para el análisis del desarrollo en el marco del cambio climático. En particular analizamos el papel relevante que cumplen los biosistemas forestales para la adaptación y mitigación a la variabilidad y el cambio climático, y su potencial para el desarrollo integral de las comunidades rurales en Costa Rica. Tal discusión la hacemos considerando la Estrategia Nacional de Cambio Climático y el mecanismo internacional de financiamiento REDD+. Finalmente discutimos la importancia de mejorar sustancialmente la gobernanza e integración entre la academia, la industria y el gobierno para beneficiar la sociedad, particularmente la más vulnerable a nivel socio-económico y climático. La academia, y en particular las disciplinas de ingeniería agrícola e ingeniería forestal concomitantemente pueden aportar, desde este nuevo enfoque, a la conservación, manejo y desarrollo de los biosistemas forestales en el marco del cambio climático.

  In this review we introduce the concept of forest biosystem as an integrative element for the analysis of development within the framework of climate change. In particular we analyze the relevant role of forest biosystems for mitigation and adaptation to variability and changing climates as well as their potential for the integrated development of rural communities in Costa Rica. Such discussion is made in the framework of the Climate Change National Strategy and the international financing mechanism known as REDD+. Finally, we discuss the importance of substantially improving the governance and integration of the academy-industry-government system in order to benefit society, particularly those most vulnerable at the socioeconomic and climatic levels. The academy, through the disciplines of forestry and agricultural engineering, can certainly improve the conservation, management and development of forest biosystems from a modern and more integrated climate change perspectiv
