    Uno de los temas más frecuentes entre urbanistas, arquitectos, geógrafos y sociólogos radica en la imagen, percepción y representación que los habitantes construyen sobre la ciudad, sobre el contexto que viven y aprehenden cada día. Así, la imagen de la ciudad incorpora aspectos trascendentales en el estudio y análisis del diseño urbano, en donde se encuentran elementos aparentemente irrelevantes, pero que bajo la percepción del individuo resultan significativos.

    Ciudades históricas como lo es el caso de Morelia poseen connotaciones culturales y patrimoniales bien definidas. Pero, al igual que el centro histórico, la dinámica fuera de éste incorpora elementos de la vida cotidiana al que el habitante asigna un valor, un significado. Es así que en una misma ciudad es posible encontrar contextos fuertemente contrastantes entre sí. Por ello, el presente trabajo pretende mostrar los valores y significados que los habitantes asignan al centro histórico y a su periferia.

    One of the most common topics among planners, architects, geographers and sociologists lies in the image, perception and representation that inhabitants made up about the city, about the context they live in and apprehend every day. Thus the image of the city incorporates transcendental aspects in the study and analysis of urban design, where elements are apparently irrelevant, but that under the individual's perception are significant.

    Historic cities such as Morelia have cultural and patrimonial connotations which are well defined. But, like in the historic center, the dynamics outside it incorporates elements of everyday life to which the resident assigned a value and meaning. Because of that, in the same city you can find each other strongly contrasting contexts. Thus, this paper aims to show the values and meanings that people assign to the historic center and its periphery.
