    El presente artículo pretende realizar la interpretación de las divisas de maría de castilla, reina de aragón entre 1416 y 1458. la esposa de alfonso v el mag- nánimo tenía por divisas personales tres flores de azafrán así como un crisol ardiente. En los siglos bajomedievales las divisas podían ser polisémicas y su significado podía cambiar a lo largo de la vida de un individuo e incluso era posible que tuvieran a la vez una lectura profana y otra religiosa. Por ello es necesario conocer los acontecimientos vividos por la reina maría, sus preocupaciones, su carácter y sus afectos pero, funda- mentalmente, su religiosidad y sus devociones para poder llevar a cabo la elaboración de una hipótesis sobre el mensaje que puede encerrar este programa emblemático.

    the objective of this article is to propose an interpretation of the devices of marie of castile, queen of aragon between 1416 and 1458. the wife of alphonse the magnanimous had as personal devices three flowers of saffron and one burning cru- cible. In the later middle ages the devices could to be polysemic and their meaning could change in one person’s lifespan. Even, it was possible than devices have at the same time a profane reading and a religious one. so, it is necessary to know the temper and affections of the queen, and the events that she lived; but, above all, her religiosity and devotions, in order to make a hypothesis about the message that this emblematic program contains.
