A COLLABORATIVE project to develop a prototype system for the exchange of cattle information across the supply chain has won the investment it requires to go ahead.
The bid for the 12-month feasibility project has been coordinated and project managed by the beef and dairy divisions of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). The funding has come from Agri-Tech Catalyst, which is run jointly by Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency, and the UK Research Councils. A ‘catalyst’ in such cases is a form of research and development funding that focuses on a specific priority area and aims to help take projects from the research phase through to as close to commercial viability as possible.
The AHDB is working with more than 20 industry collaborators and the final technical specification for the data exchange system will be agreed by a steering group, which includes the National Farmers' Union, the British Cattle Veterinary Association and the Cattle Health and Welfare Group.....
