SCOTLAND'S new public sector food body was officially launched on April 1. Food Standards Scotland (FSS) has taken over the responsibilities previously carried out in Scotland by the Food Standards Agency, and has an increased role in respect of healthy eating. The body has been established to provide independent information and advice on food safety and standards, nutrition and labelling to consumers across Scotland.
Geoff Ogle, chief executive of FSS, said it would provide a regime ‘responsive to Scotland's needs’. ‘Our focus will be on making decisions based on the food safety, labelling and nutrition issues that affect the Scottish public most directly,’ he said, adding that he was looking forward to working with partners, stakeholders and consumers ‘to confront these important issues’.....
