El heroe negativo es un personaje presenteen la novela hispanoamericana desde sus inicios, siendoel primer antiheroe el “Periquillo Sarniento”. Lasrelaciones establecidas en la sociedad postcolonial notrajeron ningun cambio al respecto. En el ejemplo dedos novelas mexicanas del siglo XIX, Los bandidos deRio Frio y Astucia se ve claramente como la realidadsocial contribuye a la popularidad de este tipo depersonaje. Son novelas con un gran potencial desimbolo, que a traves de los protagonistas principalesexpresan una dura critica social y abogan por unasociedad moderna, liberal. El bandido viene a ser unobstaculo sobre la via de la construccion de un estadomoderno. Por eso el destino del bandido no puede serotro sino la derrota o su propia transformacion enciudadano honrado.

The bandit becomes an obstacle in theway of the construction of a modern estate. That iswhy the destiny of a bandit can only be his defeat orhis transformation into an honest citizen.
