Resumen de Un paisaje con arte rupestre en el Istmo de Tehuantepec. Pistas para su gestión y valoración en trabajo conjunto con las comunidades vecinas

Gilda Becerra de la Cruz

  • Rock art is a cultural and artistic expression little known, studied and appreciated in Mexico in spite of the great contribution that provides about the history and worldview of the different cultures that made it. On the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, there are rock art sites which have paintings that are similar to the pre- Hispanic codex and some of them also have colonial paintings. The rock art sites of this territory are linked to other elements of the natural and cultural heritage creating a cultural landscape which the current communities continue transforming and giving new meanings. In this article I will analyze the current situation of risk and vulnerability of this cultural landscape, with particular attention to the relation that the bordering communities keep with it, in order to propose a collective work between specialists and communities which result in a suitable management that can offer protection to this invaluable heritage and ensure its preservation
