Resumen de Los "barrios del sur" del Cantón Central de San José, Costa Rica. Los corredores históricos y la vivienda de madera, 1910-1955

La presente propuesta tiene por objetivo estudiar la arquitectura modesta con uso habitacional de los llamados �barrios del sur� del Cantón Central de San José, como elemento tangible del desarrollo urbano de este sector de la capital costarricense. La investigación se presenta como parte de los estudios subalternos, considera la existencia de una arquitectura habitacional popular entendida como testimonio de la presencia de estos sectores. Esta arquitectura es interpretada como arquitectura modesta, es la arquitectura que tradicionalmente ha sido excluida por juicios de valor erróneos. El estudio de esta arquitectura se enmarca en el planteamiento de corredores históricos, estos son rutas significativas que reflejan los procesos de desarrollo del sitio en cuestión. Este tipo de estudios son un aporte al conocimiento de la arquitectura modesta, tanto su evolución histórica como su estado actual, lo que permite sistematizar la arquitectura existente y así tener un material de apoyo para la toma de decisiones sobre eventuales intervenciones en la zona.

The present proposal aims to study the modest architecture used for housing in the so called southern neighborhoods or �barrios del sur� of the Central District of San Jose, as a tangible element of the urban development in this sector of the Costa Rican capital. Research is presented as part of the subaltern studies. It derives from the exist-ence of popular housing architecture, understood as testimony of these sectors� pres-ence. This architecture is interpreted as �modest� and is the type of architecture that has traditionally been excluded based on judgments of mistaken value. The study of this type of architecture is framed within the proposition of historical belts, which are significant routes that show the development processes of the above-mentioned sectors. This type of studies are a contribution to the knowledge of modest architecture, its historical evolution and current state, allowing the systematization of the existing architectural structures, and therefore having material supports for decision making on eventual interventions in the area,
