  • The 2014 annual report of the Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU), which regulates work under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (ASPA), was published on October 22. In his foreword to the report, Lord Bates, the Home Office minister of state, notes that the UK is a global leader in supporting the 3Rs (replacement, refinement, reduction) and that advances in science and technology provide growing opportunities for advances in the 3Rs and the development and validation of alternatives. He says that the UK will share its frameworks with international partners ‘thereby seeking to effect change and deliver benefits well above what can be achieved just in the UK’.
