Resumen de What is cure?

David J. Argyle, Davide Berlato, Sue Murphy, David Killick, Jo Morris

  • There is much evidence to justify that cancer is the most curable chronic condition, with many textbooks and reviews stating this (eg, DeVita 2006). However, because cancer is common, it is still a major cause of death in animals. These two statements are not incompatible. As an illustration, a National Institutes of Health fact sheet reports a US human cancer incidence rate in 2007 for all cancers combined of 461 new cases diagnosed for every 100,000 people, with a mortality rate of 178 deaths for every 100,000 persons; the same report quotes a five-year survival rate of approximately 68 per cent for all cancers (NIH 2010).
