Resumen de Companion animals: What is cure?

John Dennis

  • I READ with amazement the letter ‘Cancer treatment centres for dogs and cats’ by David J. Argyle and others (VR, September 19, 2015, vol 177, p 293).

In these days, with the emphasis on evidence-based veterinary medicine, how can such an eminent group state: ‘However, with the right expertise and facilities, cancer is the most curable condition seen in cats and dogs’? The definition of cure is ‘the end of a medical condition’ and a quickly prepared list of conditions successfully treated in general practice would rapidly displace cancer from the ‘most curable’ to a position near bottom.

Can the authors of the letter justify their claims on cure?
