THE first carnivore recovery scheme on a nationwide scale in Britain began at the end of September when native pine martens were translocated from Scotland to mid-Wales.
The project is being supported by the British charity Wildlife Vets International (WVI). The charity has been involved in similar translocation schemes overseas but the pine marten project is its first major UK project.
