El estudio del diario de guerra de Léon Werth, implica descubrir la identidad narrativa del autor en las circunstancias extremas de la Ocupación. El diario no solo será un espacio de refugio personal contra una muerte casi segura, sino el espacio en el que lucha contra la disolución de su yo. Gracias a la imbricación de acontecimientos, pensamientos y emociones, el autor descubre su identidad judía; una identidad que se completará al ser consciente de la función y misión que llegará a tener su escritura. En lucha contra el silencio, Werth comprende que es testigo superviviente y que su testimonio es una declaración bajo juramento que apela a la responsabilidad del lector.

Studying Léon Werth's war diary, means uncovering the author's narrative identity in such extreme circumstances as the Occupation. Not only will this diary become a personal refuge in the face of a certain death, but also the space in which he will fight against the dissolution of his own ego. Thanks to the imbrication of events, thoughts and emotions, Werth is able to discover his Jewish identity. Furthermore, because of his commitment to writing, that identity will be fully formed, being aware of both the function and the mission of that same writing. Fighting silence, Werth understands that he is a surviving witness and that his testimony is a declaration under oath that appeals to the reader's sense of responsibility.
