    Este ensayo propone un análisis de los elementos republicanos y americanistas de la poesía de Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda. En vez de insistir en las conexiones de la autora con el romanticismo peninsular de mediados del siglo XIX, nos interesa ubicar la poética y la política de La Avellaneda en la tradición del republicanismo hispanoamericano.

    This paper offers an analysis of the Republican and Americanist elements in Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda’s poetry. Instead of insisting on the author’s connections with the peninsular romanticism of the mid-nineteenth century, we seek to locate Avellaneda’s poetics and politics in the tradition of Spanish American republicanism.
