Luigi Pirandello understand that the humor (humorismo) is a contradictory feeling that wants to laugh and yet can not, by his knowledge of the drama of the situation that would be the object of our laughter. This author does not give ethical value to that feeling. But I believe that the "feeling of the contrary" can be justified sometimes and sometimes not. It will be more justified to the extent that what prevents us from laughing is guided by a respect for values worthwhile. We can not laugh at a person who pursues ideals that we consider laudable. An ethics of humor will evaluate the feeling of the contrary by reference to how valuable that ideal at stake could be. The unmasking laughter plays an important role in the task of showing what is what we really believe. This issue is important for the ethics of humor that I'm building.
