Resumen de Mental representations explain attitudes "de se"

Gemma Celestino Fernández

  • In this talk I will discuss the problem of the essential indexical, focusing on the particular example provided at the beginning of John Perry's The Problem of the Essential Indexical. From that problem Perry, and many others after him, concluded that we need to distinguish between the objects of attitudes and the ways in which these attitudes are held towards their objects, as well as individuate these attitudes not only in terms of their objects but also taking into account these ways. I will propose a view on propositional attitudes and their attributions that solves the problem without following Perry's suggestion. Rather, the view I will present keeps in line with the previous traditional views in attempting to individuate propositional attitudes only in terms of their objects.
