A simple and robust experimental apparatus is described which allows students to record the stimulated Raman spectra of organic liquids. The experiment, which is based on a doubled Nd:YAG laser, is suitable for an advanced undergraduate laboratory in physical chemistry or spectroscopy. A brief description of the theory behind stimulated Raman scattering is given. Spectra recorded with this apparatus, showing both stimulated Raman scattering and coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering, are presented for benzene, acetonitrile, and their perdeuterated forms.
