Resumen de A Simple Boyle's Law Experiment

Don L. Lewis

  • Abstract Student-conducted experiments over a range of pressures from about 14 psi to about 120 psi can safely and accurately be made utilizing a 60 ml syringe and an ordinary bathroom scale. No pressure gauge is required and no value for initial pressure in the syringe (near atmospheric pressure) need be assumed. Volume is measured in ml and pressures are recorded in pound/square inch. While data analysis does not require computer assistance, it is convenient to utilize spreadsheet programs which can perform linear regression calculations. The constant, c, in PV = c typically exhibits an uncertainty of about 5% (standard deviation/average).
